In the late 19th century, the unprecedented pace of technological change in America called desperately for new models of higher education.
The university’s benefactor, A.J. Drexel, answered that call and created an institution where women and men of all backgrounds could learn what he called the “practical arts and sciences,” preparing people for enriching careers and leading them to more rewarding and impactful lives.
Some of his ideals — preparing students for careers in new industries, making no restrictions on religion, race, gender, or socioeconomic status — have transcended time and are more important now than ever.
Today, 130 years later, the College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS) is Drexel’s center for interdisciplinary thinking and innovation with a focus on knowledge-creation and applied research across the liberal arts, natural sciences, and social sciences.
In CoAS, our academic advisers are dedicated to the “Drexel difference” – individualized attention and unfaltering support as you navigate your academic journey. Whatever your academic path, we will guide you through your coursework and the many co-curricular opportunities that we offer to ensure that you are connected to the right offices across the university from your first year until graduation.
