Biodiversity, Earth & Environmental Science Events

City Nature Challenge

April 24, 2026 through April 27, 2026

12:00 AM-12:00 AM

Join the Academy of Natural Sciences this April 24-27 as Philadelphia joins cities around the world for the City Nature Challenge — a global community science event where everyone is invited to find, photograph, and document wild plants, animals, fungi, and more in our own neighborhoods.

Download the free iNaturalist app, step outside between April 24–27, and photograph any wild species you find — in your backyard, local park, along a creek, anywhere in Greater Philadelphia (Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks, Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties).
Every observation counts toward real biodiversity science and helps us understand and protect the living landscapes of our city.

The Academy of Natural Sciences will host FREE events around Philadelphia to kick off this challenge.
• Fri. Apr. 24, 10am–2pm — City Nature Challenge Kickoff at FDR Park (1500 Pattison Ave.)
• Mon. Apr. 27, 12–2pm — Nature at Noon at Independence Hall (6th & Walnut)
