Photography Senior Show

May 13, 2015

Through an intensive nine-month thesis process, sixteen Photography seniors have completed a diverse body of work that ranges from portraiture to landscape and from commercially-oriented work to fine art, in both color and black and white. Their theses will be on exhibition in the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery (3401 Filbert Street) from June 12th through 17th, with an opening reception on Friday, June 12th at 6:00pm. Among the works on display are images by Joanna Ference, whose award-winning photo, “Jacob,” was included in the Project Basho Onward Competition exhibition which showcased the work of 37 emerging photographers from across the globe. And, seniors Mikaela Wegerhoff, Mattison Becker and Sydney Arroyo were all selected as finalists in the Photographer's Forum 35th Annual College and High School Photography Contest.

Photography Program Director Paul Runyon notes that the wide range of work represents a core philosophy of the program, which is the premise that photographers today are doing both fine art and applied or commercial work simultaneously. “The market has changed and we were far ahead of the curve in promoting the merging of those two worlds. It really comes through in this work,” Runyon says.
