Within the Urban Strategy program, I am focusing on issues in urban education. I have supplemented my core classes with courses in Drexel’s School of Education to better understand the challenges facing city schools. My thesis explores how English Language Learners and their families in the School District of Philadelphia navigate the school selection process, which begins as early as kindergarten. I’m relying on interviews with ESL teachers, guidance counselors, and district-level staff, along with a thorough review of relevant documents and processes, to ask questions about the school selection process as it relates to ESL students and their families.
