In this fun and competitive event, participants will compete in either 1v1 or 2v2 formats, racing to complete a series of challenges as quickly as possible. Each challenge along the race course involves activities related to condoms, such as demonstrating the correct way to put on a condom and answering pop quiz questions about condom effectiveness and safety. This event will be a dynamic and informative experience for everyone involved.

Criminology and Justice Studies Department Session

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM First-year CJS students will participate in an interactive event exploring the elements of a healthy community while developing skills in the use of geographic information systems (GIS). The session will open with students meeting CJS faculty, staff and returning students while collaborating to identify neighborhood characteristics that contribute to community wellbeing. Students will then explore the Drexel campus in small groups using a GIS app on their smartphones to identify and capture features that promote thriving communities. Student observations (via the app) will populate a live map, allowing them to observe how geographic space can foster both healthy, and in some cases unhealthy, environments. Once students have identified, mapped and discussed the elements of healthy communities, they will explore the criminogenic consequences that result from removing those healthy features from neighborhoods. This session offers a unique opportunity to introduce new students to the principles of criminology and justice while demonstrating GIS as an important data collection and visualization tool of our discipline. A primary goal of this session is to emphasize the importance of place as a predictor of life chances and criminal justice involvement.

At 12:15, they will return to the Pearlstein Building for lunch followed by a tour of the Baiada Institute and induction into the Close Club.
