Philadelphia Teacher Residency
Nation Center for Teacher Residencies
Project led by:
Valerie Klein, PhD
Sarah P. Ulrich, PhD
This grant provides tuition support for graduate teacher residents in the Philadelphia Teacher Residency and support them to complete their initial certification through a post-baccalaureate program and for those who are interested, to continue their course work to complete a master’s degree. Funding is also provided for certification requirements outside of the classroom, including praxis preparation and fees for initial certification as well as add-on certification areas. The teacher residents in this program are part of our existing partnerships Boys Latin Charter School, String Theory Charter School and the School District of Philadelphia and we are also working to build new partnerships with the goal to increase the number of certified teachers who are in and entering classrooms in Philadelphia. This is aligned with the funders “core mission of supporting and empowering teacher residents from underrepresented and historically marginalized communities who are in reflection of the students in the schools the teacher residents will serve.”
