By Basil Tutza

Beyond their schoolwork, Drexel University School of Education students have the unique opportunity to engage extracurricularly with their peers, careers, and passion for teaching in the form of the SoE’s student-run organizations. Like the program itself, these groups are tightly-knit and fully dedicated to advancing the craft and community of education. Through team-building activities, community engagement, and exclusive speakers, education-focused student organizations aim to enhance the SoE experience without the rigidity of coursework.

The Future Educators of Drexel

The Future Educators of Drexel, or FEDs, seeks to foster relationships within the School of Education in a loose, friendly environment built by and for educators. With a social and community-oriented mission, FEDs encourages anyone with an interest in education to drop by for one of their game nights, a movie night, or even enroll in their mentorship program.

Kappa Delta Pi

The School of Education is also a proud sponsor of its very own Kappa Delta Pi chapter, an International Honor Society focused on leadership and scholarship in the next generation of educators. All undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.5 or above are welcome to apply, as well as all graduate students with a GPA of at least 3.4. Kappa Delta Pi members can expect to collaborate frequently with the FEDs’ community, as well as organize fundraisers and informational events for students across the university.

Drexel Student Council of Exceptional Children

Students interested in advancing special needs education should consider joining the Drexel Student Council of Exceptional Children. The Council is focused wholly on working with talented children in the local community through workshops, speaking engagements, and on-the-ground events—previous spotlights have included the process of developing IEPs and addressing unique challenges faced by struggling readers.

Students interested in joining or getting more information about any of these organizations should contact:
