Drexel University School of Education

May 9, 2025

As Assistant Executive Director for Championships & Sport Administration for The Ivy League, Sara Steinman, EdD has found a knack for leadership upon graduation from Drexel. A big part of this skill came from defending her dissertation, a long and taxing process, but one that was ultimately rewarding. Dr. Steinman didn’t just turn her academic hard work into a prestigious career; as she puts it, she let it empower her.

How has/did your experience at Drexel University School of Education help you grow professionally?

One of my biggest takeaways from my experience at Drexel was developing a greater sense of understanding about leadership, critical thinking, and perspective. A few of the courses I took in the early part of the program left a lasting impression on me and helped shape the way I think and view the world, which in turn, has allowed me to improve the way I interact and engage with people around me. In addition, through my research journey, I have learned how to approach knowledge through a critical lens and see issues from all angles. Also, I have grown as a stronger ally and advocate through my dissertation and have the skills to articulate points in a more constructive manner.

Can you share a specific moment or achievement that highlights your time at Drexel?

Hands down, successfully defending my dissertation. It was the most bittersweet moment of my life. I was so incredibly proud to see all of the work I put in throughout my time at Drexel come together so beautifully, but I was also in disbelief that it was the end of my educational journey. It was definitely one of the most rewarding and empowering experiences to have that moment that defined my time at Drexel.

How has/did the program prepare you for your current role or career advancement?

Through my experience at Drexel, I am more prepared to advance in my career as well as explore opportunities for continued research and scholarly practice.

What aspects of Drexel’s approach to education do you find most impactful?

I loved the very intentional scaffolded approach to the course design, and watching my dissertation develop and evolve throughout each step of the program. It was amazing to get to the dissertation phase of the program and be able to look back at the way I had been building up to prepare me for the final phase in this research journey.

How have/did the faculty and resources at Drexel influence your educational journey?

The faculty at Drexel were so supportive and engaged in my educational journey. I made a few tremendous connections with my faculty and I always appreciated how approachable they were and willing to encourage, push, and challenge me through every step of my educational experience at Drexel.
