A Letter to Our New Dragons

Drexel University School of Education

April 29, 2021

Dear Class of 2025/26,

Congratulations on your acceptance to the Drexel School of Education! This is truly an extraordinary accomplishment, and you should be so proud of all your hard work that has gotten you to this point. I am writing to tell you more about my experience at Drexel to help you decide if this standout program is right for you.

I remember receiving my acceptance offer in 2017. I was so excited to have the opportunity to join such a special professional community. In Drexel’s School of Education, you can expect to find a tight-knit community of driven students and passionate educators. The size of our program has allowed me to get to know my instructors and advisors on a personal level, which has made for such a positive experience. The School of Education faculty is not only knowledgeable, but has a special way of teaching material to make it practical for students.

Additionally, one of the most significant factors in my decision to attend Drexel has been the endless opportunities I have had to put my learning to practice in various classrooms, starting in my freshman year. In your first two years, you can expect to work in a variety of classrooms for observations. As a third year student, you will complete a 30-week Pre-Student Teaching Residency, and as a fourth year student, a 30-week Student Teaching Residency. These opportunities have truly been lifechanging, and have not only helped me grow as an educator, but have also given me invaluable networking opportunities with my dream schools.

You will also have lots of opportunities to challenge yourself and pursue professional development outside of the classroom. I am a member of and serve on the Executive Board for Drexel’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society for Educators, as well as serving as Treasurer for the Future Educators of Drexel student organization. Should you choose to attend Drexel, I encourage you to join these two extraordinary organizations, as I have made many of my closest friends through them.

I am currently on track to graduate in June, and I am lucky enough to have already had several interviews for full-time positions. My extensive classroom experience, which is unmatched by any other local college program, has set me apart from my competition, and is one of the best reasons to choose Drexel’s School of Education. I am also confident that, should I be offered a full-time position for next year, I am more than prepared, thanks to Drexel’s practical, ambitious, and meaningful program.

I encourage you to strongly consider Drexel’s School of Education, as it will provide endless opportunities that will challenge you, help you grow as an educator, and truly set you apart from your competition. Best of luck to you, and congratulations on reaching this significant milestone in your career!

Sincerely,

Jason Sobieski, B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education
