Growing Up Poor: The Multifaceted Reach of Poverty Into Youth’s Lives & Schooling in Rural NW China

Global Education Colloquium Brown Bag Series

PHILADELPHIA, PA, February 17, 2014

Children from resource-constrained households and communities have gained increasing access to schooling. However, their educational experiences and outcomes remain conditioned by multiple dimensions of poverty. Dr. Jennifer Adams, professor in the School of Education's EdD program, explores the experience of growing up poor as well as the impact of daily poverty on the decisions and behaviors of parents, children, and teachers in her presentation, "Growing Up Poor: The Multifaceted Reach of Poverty Into Youth's Lives & Schooling in Rural Northwest China."

The discussion takes place on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 12 p.m. in One Drexel Plaza (3001 Market Street), Room 004.

The event is part of the School of Education's Global Education Colloquium, which launched in November 2013. The monthly discussions feature an expert speaking on a globally-oriented topic that is the result of research spanning the full range of learning, teaching and training topics including international studies, higher education, peace education, social justice, inequality, politics of knowledge, policy, leadership and organizational change.

Registration is now open. You are invited to bring your lunch. Drinks and cookies will be served.
