School of Education alumnus Douglas Markgraf premiers his documentary film, “This Beats a Coma: From Brain Injury to XC Bicycle Tour” on Friday, October 4 at Drexel University. The premier event is from 7-9 p.m. in Bossone Research Center’s Mitchell Auditorium.

On May 31, 2006, Markgraf was struck by a car while riding in a bike lane in Center City Philadelphia. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and underwent a long recovery. The documentary, directed by Markgraf’s friend Scott Richardson, follows Markgraf through recovery to 2011, when he rode his bicycle across the U.S. to raise awareness and assist survivors of traumatic brain injuries.

Markgraf, who now teaches science and woodworking at a school in Tampa, will be in attendance.

This event is co-sponsored by the Council on Brain Injury (CoBI) and Access Sports. It is free and open to the public.
