The Drexel Areas of Research Excellence (DARE) initiative is focused on building distinctive interdisciplinary signatures across the university. Although Drexel University has no shortage of renowned disciplinary research, scholarship, and creativity strengths, it is the fact that the university assimilates this unique breadth of disciplines that creates such a fruitful environment. Creating innovative, unique, and strategic collaborations at the intersections of existing areas of strength will lead to truly transformative outcomes.
The DARE initiative will provide resources such that four or five small groups of faculty and students can each spend a year in deep thought about an interdisciplinary research signature that spans at least three of our schools and colleges.
The goals of the initiative are to:
- Identify 4-5 scholarly areas where Drexel can take a leadership position nationally and internationally
- Stimulate the formation of effective multidisciplinary research teams
- Facilitate the submission of large, multidisciplinary proposals to governmental agencies, private industry, foundations/non-profits, and/or philanthropic sponsors
- Elevate the visibility of Drexel's unique research foci understanding that some fields traditionally aspire to funded awards and others will seek honorific awards and recognition
