Dear Colleagues,

The holiday spirit was alive and well at Longwood Gardens last week, where I went to celebrate an exhibit by students in the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design: two gown-like sculptures constructed entirely of botanical elements, which will be seen by over half a million Longwood visitors this season. As always, I was amazed at the ability of Drexel students to create and innovate, no matter how unfamiliar the challenge.

Our engagements with Longwood now span seven colleges and schools, resulting in a food sustainability and innovation course, over 30 students engaged in research projects, virtual reality research and new K-12 programming — and the list goes on.

Later in the week, I attended BIOMED’s Immune Modulation and Engineering Symposium, where I had dinner with academic, clinical and industry leaders. In addition to BIOMED’s pioneering research in this emerging field, I learned more about the school’s work with Bristol Myers Squibb to build a pathway for underrepresented students to become future leaders in biomedical engineering.

I’m reminded once again of the power of partnerships to create diverse, enduring impacts across our research and scholarly activities. And I’m incredibly proud of the work of our faculty and professional staff who lead these collaborations and innovations in teaching and research.

Thank you for everything that you do for our students, partners and the Drexel community. I hope that you have a chance to enjoy the season and some well-deserved time away.

Wishing you a wonderful break and a happy, healthy New Year!

Sincerely,

Paul E. Jensen
