Student Behavior Standards
Student Behavior Standards for Drexel International Programs Guidance for Students
All students should be aware that they are:
1. Subject to the Drexel University Code of Conduct at all times when they are travelling abroad on a Drexel-affiliated program.
2. Subject to local laws and regulations in the host country even if they may not be aware of these laws or the laws are different from those in the United States.
3. At risk of being dismissed from the program at their own expense for serious or repeated violation of behavioral and attendance expectations.
Behavior Standards for Intensive Courses Abroad, Non-Credit Experiences Abroad and other International Programs
1. Students must be punctual, prepared and actively engaged in all required program activities and must fully comply with any program leader’s instructions or posted warnings. If students have free time in the evenings, they are expected to return with sufficient time for a good night's sleep to ensure that comprehension and engagement in the program is not compromised.
2. Students must display appropriate behavior and dress and be respectful of other participants, faculty and locals throughout the experience. At all times, students’ behavior should reflect well upon Drexel University and should not pose a hazard to the student or others.
3. Students must abide by all local laws, including those related to alcohol and drugs. Students must follow all rules and regulations established by Drexel and/or the program including those related to alcohol consumption. At no time should a student under the legal drinking age in the host country consume alcohol in that country. Any independent alcohol consumption outside of program activities (if permitted) should be done responsibly in a manner that does not compromise the safety of the student and does not impede respectful and full participation in all future program activities. The possession or use of illegal drugs or substances is prohibited.
4. During non-program hours, students of legal age in the host country may consume alcohol so long as their behavior does not negatively affect their participation in the program, threaten the safety or well-being of themselves or others, disrupt the program, cause damage to the reputation of Drexel University, or threaten the University’s relationship with any of their partners.
On some programs, the possession or consumption of alcohol may not be permitted at any time on the program. This is determined by faculty leaders or laws and regulations in the host country.
Consequences for Failure to Adhere to Student Behavior Standards on ICAs, NCEAs, and other International Programs

Infraction
|
Action
|
Examples: please note that is not an exhaustive list
|
|
First MINOR infraction on a program of more than 14 days? I don't understand the difference between this one and the first minor infraction of a program of 14 days or less
|
• verbal warning from faculty, acknowledged by student
|
• late to meeting time w/o notice (15 minutes or less);
• lack of engagement in activities;
• likely disrespectful comments;
• mildly inappropriate behavior.
|
|
Second MINOR infraction; first MINOR infraction on a program of 14 days or less; or first MAJOR infraction
|
• written warning from faculty with a CC to Drexel Global contact;
• student may be referred to Student Conduct;
• academic consequences, such as the student’s participation grade
|
• repeat of minor infraction;
• more than 15 minutes late to activity without notice;
• unexcused missed program activity;
• rude, intentionally offensive behavior or comments, potentially directed to multiple participants and/or locals;
• violation of alcohol policy during program activities or free time that does not negatively affect their participation in the program, threaten the safety or well-being of themselves or others, disrupt the program, cause damage to the reputation of Drexel University, or threaten the University’s relationship with any of their partners.
|
|
Repeated MINOR;
Second MINOR
infraction on a
program 14 days or
less; second MAJOR
infraction; or first
SERIOUS infraction
|
• possibility of immediate dismissal from program for Major and Serious infractions at the student’s expense;
• referral to Student Conduct;
• for programs of 14 days or less: 2nd minor infraction results in required on-site meeting with Faculty and/or Senior Director of Global Safety and Operations; on-site suspension; academic consequences; and possible dismissal at the student’s expense if minor infractions continue or something like that? Would we kick out a student for 2 minor infractions?
|
• repetition of infractions;
• serious infractions include violation of alcohol policy during program activities or free time that negatively affects student participation in the program, threatens the safety or well-being of themselves or others, disrupts the program, causes damage to the reputation of Drexel University, or threatens the University’s relationship with any of their partners.
• possession or use of illegal substance;
• physical or sexual assault; • direct defiance of faculty member directive
