Drexel makes the health, safety, and security of its students the highest priority. As is true in Philadelphia, Drexel cannot guarantee the safety of students while they are abroad but rather, we aim to provide students with the resources and information that they may need to prepare for their time abroad and make smart decisions to greatly lower their risks while overseas. Study Abroad works actively to be informed about the locations where our students study and to follow best practices of the field to support student safety and security.

As we prepare students to be educated travelers, they have an important role to play in the responsibility for their well-being. Being informed and accountable is a critical part of that process. Students are provided with health and safety information in the Study Abroad Pre-departure Guide, pre-departure orientation, as well as the orientation material provided by our overseas partners once students arrive on location. Students should review our Health and Safety Checklist prior to going abroad and review the websites resources to learn more about how to prepare. 

To assist in the event of an emergency, Drexel University has contracted with On Call International to provide emergency medical, political and natural disaster assistance, evacuation and repatriation coverage for Drexel students participating on a university-affiliated international activity. Drexel students are automatically enrolled in this coverage through their registration in the Drexel Study Abroad online systems. It is important to note, however, that On Call is NOT health insurance. All students must have health insurance that includes international coverage for their time overseas.
