Celebrate World Red Cross, Red Crescent Day

Thursday, May 8, 2014

5:30 PM-7:30 PM

We are inviting you to attend an event for World Red Cross, Red Crescent Day at the Philadelphia College of Physicians on Thursday, May 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. This is sponsored by the United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia and co-sponsored by the Global Public Health Initiative of the Drexel School of Public Health.

The mission of the United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia is to promote global citizenship in our region through constructive, if at times critical, promotion of the United Nations System. In our pursuits regarding this mission, we emphasize education, awareness and advocacy. We also emphasize the need, as global citizens, for a certain level of civic empathy and involvement towards the suffering of others. That same empathy and involvement was the hallmark of the work of Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Red Cross in 1863, and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, and whose birthday was May 8.

Our organization wants to pay tribute to the many global citizens that make the International Red Cross Red Crescent organization such a exemplary global movement. We also will highlight the work they do towards protecting the health of children and the many problems children face in situations of conflict and violent strife. We invite you to celebrate the work of the IRCRC in alleviating pain and disease.

We hope you will join us on May 8th to celebrate this important work! (Please note, dinner will not be provided).
