Population Health Spotlight Speaker Series: Ira Flatow

The first Population Health Spotlight Speaker Series event of the academic year features Ira Flatow, award-winning science correspondent, TV journalist and the host of public radio's program Science Friday®, heard weekly on 540 public radio stations and podcasts.

This event will be held virtually in a fireside chat format.

About the Speaker

Science Friday brings 2 million listeners lively, informative discussions on science, technology, health, space and the environment.

Ira is also founder and President of the Science Friday Initiative, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit company dedicated to creating audio, educational and internet content that make science "user friendly."

Flatow describes his work as the challenge "to make science a topic for discussion around the dinner table."

Ira's broadcasting career covers 6 decades, first working in high school television in 1965. He has shared his enthusiasm with public radio listeners for more than 57 years.

About the Series:

The Dornsife School of Public Health’s 2026–27 Population Health Spotlight Series, “We Are All Public Health: The Many Voices and Pathways Shaping Public Health Today,” explores the many sectors, perspectives, and professional pathways that shape the health of populations in the U.S. and around the world.

Throughout the academic year, this hybrid seminar series will feature recognized leaders from a range of fields and professional spheres, including government, nonprofits, media, philanthropy, industry, and community organizations, whose work is influencing population health in meaningful ways.
