MERHG Seminar: Intergenerational Trauma: A Mixed-Methods Proof of Concept
Wednesday, January 14, 2026
12:00 PM-1:00 PM
Intergenerational trauma profoundly shapes the health and well-being of
migrant and refugee
populations across Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly among
women and children.
This MERHG presentation highlights innovative, culturally grounded approaches to
studying and addressing
these impacts. Attendees will learn how equity-driven, participatory
methods operationalize trauma
research to inform interventions and policy recommendations that promote
health in contexts of
displacement, humanitarian crises, and armed conflict.
Dr. Correa-Salazar, assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at
Universidad de Los Andes
in Bogotá and director of the Community Health Clinic for Global Health
Problems, leads this work.
Her research applies an intersectionality lens to examine how structural
determinants—such as
migration, gender, and violence—shape health outcomes for migrant and
refugee communities.
Using mixed and participatory methods, she advances epistemic justice and
builds grounded
knowledge to support sustainable, community-centered solutions.
