The Drexel University Medical Cannabis Research Center presents
Gillian Schauer, PhD, Executive Director of the Cannabis Regulators
Association (CANNRA), a nonpartisan, nonprofit association of government
agencies involved in cannabis, cannabinoid, and hemp regulation across more
than 45 states, three U.S. territories, the District of Columbia, Canada, the
Netherlands, Malta, and Albania.
Schauer's prior work includes the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and
several other state and international governments. From 2014-2021, on behalf of
the CDC and CDC Foundation, Schauer led a Learning Collaborative on
Cannabis and Public Health, convening State Health Officials to share learnings
and best practices and troubleshoot data and research challenges in cannabis.
Schauer has testified before the U.S. Congress, as well as several state
legislatures to provide education on national cannabis regulatory approaches
across the country. Prior to working on cannabis policy, she worked on tobacco
control policy and was a Senior Editor on the 2020 Surgeon General's Report on
Smoking Cessation. Schauer has more than 75 publications on tobacco,
cannabis, and other substance use topics. She has an MPH from the University of
Washington and a PhD in Behavioral Science from Emory University.
Schauer will present on the essential functions of CANNRA, the common
challenges of regulating cannabis, and how states are approaching cannabis
regulation.
