In Loving Communion: Critical Conversations on Racism, Health, and Healing
Wednesday, September 24, 2025
12:30 PM-1:30 PM
Join the Ubuntu Center on Racism, Global Movements & Population Health Equity for a community conversation with Irene Headen, PhD, MS, assistant professor at Dornsife, titled,
“Neighborhood Systems Supporting Black Maternal Health."
Dr. Headen
explores how neighborhoods can be a cornerstone for the physical and social
resources that support a healthy pregnancy. In Black neighborhoods impacted by
decades of a segregation and divestment, these resources can not only be
sparse, but compound and exacerbate the impact of other factors.
This talk will
illuminate takeaways from Black birthing people and service providers in Philly
about how neighborhood systems create challenging or supportive environments
during the childbearing window.
