Dissertation Defense by Kaitlin Koffer Miller

Wednesday, May 31, 2023

12:00 PM-1:30 PM

Kaitlin Koffer Miller, MPH, Department of Health Management and Policy, will present "Experiences And Stories Of Older Autistic Adults And Their Family Members: A Mixed Methods Approach."

Research on older autistic adults is scant in the literature, especially focused on the needs reported directly by autistic adults and family members. This dissertation study used a mixed methods approach by merging qualitative interviews with data from a large survey (the 2018 Pennsylvania Autism Needs Assessment) to better understand the experiences of older autistic adults and their family members, caregivers, and other supporters. Findings include: the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on various life domains, the role of being a caregiver, and the impact of stress and trauma.
