Methods of Land-Based Oppression Outlined in Philadelphia’s First Urban Agriculture Plan

Wednesday, February 15, 2023

1:00 PM-2:00 PM

Join the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Dornsife for a research seminar.

Ashley B. Gripper, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Community Health & Prevention and The Ubuntu Center on Racism, Global Movements, and Population Health Equity, will present.

History informs the state and stories of urban agriculture in Philadelphia today. While the plan focuses on present and future urban agriculture, it is critical to provide a historical overview as context, grounding the plan in past events, policies, and political movements that have been at work in this nation and this city. The historic timeline offers relevant historical context as it relates to people, land, and the practices of growing food in Philadelphia. It also highlights the connections between specific moments in time and racialized land-based oppression.
