Dr. Gilliland, Director of the Urban Development Program at Western University, will present Place-Based Collaborations for Children’s Health: Building Capacity through Community Geography.

About Our Speaker:
Dr. Jason Gilliland is Director of the Urban Development Program and a Professor in the Departments of Geography & Environment, Paediatrics, Health Studies, and Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Western University, Canada. He is also a Scientist with the Children’s Health Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute, two of Canada’s leading hospital-based research institutes. He is also Director of the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEAL), an award-winning, multidisciplinary research and training centre which develops and connects highly skilled researchers to create, disseminate, and mobilize knowledge for making healthy, thriving communities.
He is recognized for his work on healthy communities, particularly for the novel ways he applies geospatial methods for urban health.
In 2020, he was Children’s Health Foundation Scientist of the Year. In 2022, he received the Award for Scholarly Distinction from the Canadian Association of Geographers in recognition of an outstanding scholarly career in Geography.
