Innovative Strategies to Reduce Health Disparities Among Women Who Inject Drugs

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics' next seminar will discuss new strategies to reduce health disparities among women who inject drugs.

Speaker: Alexis Roth, PhD, MPH, Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health and Prevention at Dornsife.

Roth's research is focused on understanding how individual, social, and environmental factors influence health disparities among urban populations. Her work is grounded in the philosophy of harm reduction, and she utilizes community-engaged mixed methods research to identify sustainable solutions to public health problems.

For this talk, Roth will review some of her work looking at the intersection of gender and drug use as determinants of women's health. First, she will talk about some of the determinants of the recent resurgence of HIV among people who inject drugs. Next, she will describe 3 iterative projects conducted in partnership with local syringe service programs to improve access to biomedical HIV prevention services.
