Addressing Sexual Violence in Conflict

Wednesday, April 20, 2022

12:00 PM-1:00 PM

Every year, tens of thousands of women, men, and children suffer sexual violence during and after armed conflict. Physicians for Human Rights’ Program on Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones forges critical partnerships that are dramatically increasing local capacity to forensically document and prosecute cases of sexual violence.

This presentation will provide an overview of PHR's core strategies in addressing sexual violence in conflict zones and examples of how these strategies have come together to support access to justice for survivors of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Kenya, the Central African Republic, and Iraq.

Speakers:
  • Payal Shah, Director, Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones, Physicians for Human Rights
  • Thomas McHale, Deputy Director, Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones, Physicians for Human Rights
Moderator: Nina Sun, Deputy Director, Global Health and Assistant Clinical Professor
