MERHG: Healthcare for Young Children of Immigrant and US-Born Mothers

Friday, November 5, 2021

11:00 AM-12:00 PM

Join the Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Health Group (MERHG) for a colloquium featuring Stephanie Ettinger de Cuba, PhD, MPH, Executive Director for Children’s HealthWatch.

Ettinger de Cuba will present a mixed methods analysis of healthcare and competing needs in family life for young children of immigrant and US-born mothers.

Using a cross-sectional dataset to assess how health care hardship varies among young children of immigrant compared to US-born mothers and qualitative semi-structured interviews with immigrant mothers, Ettinger de Cuba explored families’ health care experiences in the context of race/ethnicity and nativity and their relationship to the many demands families face, with implications for informing policy.

Ettinger de Cuba has worked on issues of social determinants of health for young children and their families in program, policy and research roles for more than two decades.
