Tuesday, August 10, 2021
8:00 AM-11:00 AM
All are welcome to watch Rennie Joshi, PhD Candidate, present her dissertation defense.
Description:
The 2020 Environmental Performance Index ranked Nepal 178th out of 180 countries in terms of air quality, just ahead of India and Pakistan. The Global Burden of Disease reported that exposure to ambient particulate matter caused about 4.14 million deaths, making it the sixth leading risk factor for mortality in 2019. Literature on the relationship between fine particulate matter and cardiovascular health in Nepal is lacking. This dissertation describes the status of cardiovascular health in Nepal using a representative sample and examines the association between fine particulate matter and cardiometabolic risk factors: fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, and blood pressure.
