Levels and Determinants of Urban Mortality: A Focus on Cities of Latin America

The Drexel University Urban Health Collaborative’s Salud Urbana en América Latina (SALURBAL) research project is convening an international research event that will discuss challenges and opportunities in characterizing and studying the determinants of urban mortality with a special focus on the Latin American context. This event is a pre-symposium event hosted by Drexel’s Dornsife School of Public Health and organized in conjunction with the Urban Health Collaborative’s biannual symposium Reimagining Health in Cities: Challenges and New Directions.

The event will be made up of a keynote address and two expert panels:
• Methodologic Panel: Challenges in the assessment of patterns of urban mortality in Latin American cities
• Mortality in Latin American Cities: Preliminary results from the SALURBAL project

• Dr. Ana Diez Roux, Dean and Distinguished Professor of Epidemiology, Dornsife School of Public Health, Drexel University
• Dr. Piedad Urdinola, Associate Professor, Department of Statistics, Universidad Nacional de Colombia
• Dr. Bernardo Lanza Queiroz, Associate Professor, Department of Demography, UFMG, Brazil
• Dr. Lina Palacio-Mejía, Professor, Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública, Mexico
• Dr. Usama Bilal, Assistant Professor, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Drexel University
• Dr. Alex Quistberg, Assistant Research Professor, Environmental and Occupational Health, Drexel University
• Ana Ortigoza, Doctoral Research Fellow, Drexel Urban Health Collaborative

Registration is required for the event and costs $15, or $10 for students, plus fees.
