Weather-Related Effects Among Hemodialysis Patients in Select Urban Northeast Cities

Monday, June 12, 2017

12:00 PM-1:00 PM

Richard Remigio, MPhil, MS, research coordinator at Urban Health Collaborative, will present at this Environmental and Occupational Health seminar.

Many studies on extreme heat and health have shown associations with morbidity and mortality within the general population. However, there has been less focused work on heat vulnerability among populations living with chronic diseases, specifically renal-related diseases such as end-stage renal disease (ESRD). This talk will present preliminary findings on ambient outdoor heat effects among patients receiving hemodialysis, a long-term form of treatment that manages ESRD. These analyses were conducted using electronic health records from patients residing in Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia.
