Urban Health Collaborative Invited Speaker: Jason Corburn

The Urban Health Collaborative is proud to present Jason Corburn, PhD, MCP. His talk is entitled “Cities for Life: Transforming Urban Institution for Health Equity.” Dr. Corburn is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, jointly appointed in the Department of City & Regional Planning and the School of Public Health. He directs Berkeley's Institute of Urban and Regional Development, the joint Master of City Planning (MCP) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program and leads the Center for Global Healthy Cities.
He helped draft and get adopted the nation’s first municipal Health in All Policies Ordinance, in Richmond, California, and is working in cities around the world to ensure health equity is integrated into all decision making. Prof. Corburn co-chaired the WHO working group on Informal Settlements and Health, in preparation for the Habitat III conference, and is co-leading health-equity focused slum upgrading in Kenya, Brazil, Colombia, Cameroon, and India. He is the author of 5 award-winning books on urban health, most recently Slum Health: From the Cell to the Street (UC Press, 2016). He received his PhD and MCP from MIT.
