Photovoice Villaverde, Madrid: A participatory study on food environment through photography

The UHC is pleased to present Manuel Franco, MD, PhD, Associate Professor, Division of Epidemiology and Public Health, School of Medicine, University of Alcalá

Dr. Franco will be speaking on his Photovoice Villaverde project. In this participatory study, the neighbors of an underserved area in Madrid analyzed their residential areas in relation to food using a technique that brings together photography and research. Residents engaged with researchers and local public health administrators during months of group discussions and meetings. Results of the project included the generation of concrete policy recommendations to improve the neighborhood food environments, public meetings with local authorities, a photo exhibition, a photobook as well as scientific articles.
