Urban Health Collaborative Research Seminar: An agent-based simulation model of diet disparities

Friday, March 11, 2016

2:00 PM-3:30 PM

Presented by Brent Langellier, PhD, MA

Assistant Professor, Department of Health Management and Policy, Dornsife School of Public Health

Dr. Langellier will present preliminary results from his research, which uses agent-based simulation models to understand how neighborhood residential segregation, social networks, and socioeconomic inequalities interact to generate and exacerbate health disparities. Dr. Langellier will overview the utility of agent-based modeling for social and public health research, present preliminary results from a 'toy' model (useful for exploring mechanisms that contribute to disparities and a 'Philadelphia' model (useful for understanding 'real world' disparities), and discuss next steps as this research further develops.
