Chemistry Seminar

Friday, April 17, 2026

11:00 AM-12:30 PM

Join us on Friday, April 17th at 11am for another installment of our Spring Chemistry Seminar Series!

Guest lecturer, Dr. Margaret Scheuermann from Western Washington University, will present their talk, "Formation of metal nanoparticles from molecular pre-catalysts during catalysis".

Abstract:
Catalysts are substances that enhance the rate of a process without being consumed in the process. However, catalysts can be consumed or changed by competing reactions occurring concurrently with and in parallel to the process being catalyzed. This seminar will focus on systems in which molecular pre-catalysts containing iridium or palladium atoms transform into catalytically relevant metal nanoparticles during catalysis. The characterization of several systems and efforts to address the challenging problem of disambiguating the catalytic significance of the molecular species and nanoparticles will be presented.

This week's seminar will be Zoom Only.
