March 2, 2022

The following information is for Drexel graduate students enrolled in quarter programs who intend to complete their program/degree requirements and graduate in the upcoming spring or summer terms.

We encourage all students to maintain regular communication with your assigned academic advisor(s) who can help you work through any concerns related to your academic progress, including any unforeseen challenges you encounter due to family, health, personal, or other reasons. Students who are planning to complete their degree requirements and graduate this spring or summer MUST adhere to the deadlines and procedures outlined below.*

*Please note that individual programs, departments, colleges and schools may have additional deadlines and requirements. We encourage you to discuss your graduation plans with your academic advisor(s) as soon as possible.

FAQs

How do I apply?
Please review the step-by-step instructions on the Drexel Central website. The first question asks you to confirm your most recent or last term of enrollment, not your graduation term. For most, this will be the current winter term if you are enrolled. Otherwise, please enter your last term of enrollment in the program.

What if I don’t plan to participate in Commencement?
Even if you do not plan to participate in a Commencement ceremony, you MUST apply for your degree to be cleared for graduation, request official transcripts or degree verification, and receive a diploma.

What if I don’t complete my degree requirements this spring?
If you submit an application for degree for spring term by April 29 but don’t complete your degree requirements as planned, your application for degree will be adjusted to a later term. If there is a chance you will complete your degree requirements this spring, please submit an application for degree by April 29. If you plan to complete your degree requirements in the subsequent summer term and wish to participate in the June 2022 Commencement ceremonies, see the “Walkthrough” option below.

What if I don’t meet the April 29 deadline?
Your name will not be listed in the official 2022 Commencement program. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions.

For doctoral degree recipients and some master’s programs with thesis or dissertation requirements:

  1. In addition to the deadlines and requirements listed above, it is highly recommended that students schedule their final oral defense by early May to allow sufficient time to complete any revisions and submit their final thesis or dissertation by the spring quarter completion deadline of June 22. Please refer to the Graduate College website for required E Forms (PhD only) and D Forms (professional doctorates) processes. We also recommend students consult their program, department, college or school.
  2. Further, please note that the deadline to include doctoral thesis and dissertation titles in the official 2022 Commencement program is May 9. The Graduate College will be in touch with candidates who have applied for their degree to obtain this information before May 9.

"Walkthrough"

A student who wishes to participate in the June 2022 Commencement ceremonies, but who will not have completed their degree requirements until the end of the subsequent summer term, must meet the eligibility criteria to be considered a “walkthrough.” Please review the Walkthrough Policy here.

Students planning to graduate at the end of the summer term who wish to participate in the June 2022 Commencement ceremonies, be listed in the official 2022 Commencement program as a walkthrough, and have their name read aloud at their individual college or school ceremony MUST complete the following steps by April 29:

  1. Submit an “Application for Degree" for summer term in their DrexelOne portal;
  2. Contact their academic advisor(s) to complete an “Application to Participate in Commencement Activities";
  3. And, meet all eligibility criteria outlined in the Walkthrough Policy.

Please note that students who submit an application for degree for summer term by April 29 and who are approved to walkthrough at the June 2022 Commencement ceremonies cannot be switched back to a “true” spring term graduate, such as if they finish earlier than expected.

What if I don’t meet the April 29 deadline?
Students graduating in the summer term may still apply to walkthrough and participate in the June 2022 Commencement ceremonies if eligible, butthey will not be listed in the official 2022 Commencement program as a walkthrough. Instead, they will be listed in the 2023 Commencement program as a summer graduate.

Summer Quarter 2022

Students planning to complete their degree requirements and graduate at the end of the summer term and who are NOT planning to participate in the June 2022 Commencement ceremonies must submit an “Application for Degree” in their DrexelOne portal by July 22 in order to:

  • Be cleared for graduation (official transcript will note degree awarded September 3, 2022);
  • And, receive a diploma in the mail.

Please review the step-by-step instructions on the Drexel Central website.

Please note that Commencement occurs once per year in June. If a summer term graduate wishes to participate in the 2022 June Commencement ceremonies, they must follow the steps outlined above under “Walkthrough”. Otherwise, they will be invited to participate in Commencement 2023.

For doctoral degree recipients and some master’s programs with thesis or dissertation requirements: In addition to the deadlines and requirements listed above, it is highly recommended that students schedule their final oral defense to allow sufficient time to complete revisions and submit their final thesis or dissertation by the summer quarter completion deadline of September 21. Please refer to the Graduate College website for required E Forms (PhD only) and D Forms (professional doctorates) processes. We also recommend students consult their program, department, college or school for additional requirements.
