Battlefest

February 22, 2016

February 22, 2016 — MAD Dragon Music Group’s annual BattleFest will throw three bands into a round-robin battle on February 24 in the Pearlstein Gallery. Playing in a head-to-head circle, they’ll trade off songs in rapid succession in a format based on the popular music showcase, “Later…with Jools Holland.” Acts include Mad Dragon Records’ post-punk act Edelweiss, dynamic alt-rock artist Abi Reimold, and indie-rock powerhouse Cold Fronts (Warner Bros Records/Sire). Tickets to the show, which starts at 7:00pm (URBN Annex, 3401 Filbert Street), are $5 at the door.

Recently featured in the Wall Street Journal, Cold Fronts is driven by the distinctive vocals of Craig Almquist and has shared the stage with bands such as Maps & Atlases, The Vaccines and Mac Demarco. Edelweiss has made waves in the Philadelphia music scene with their post-punk/math rock/indie pop tunes, recently recording an EP with Drexel alumnus Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Joyce Maynor). Abi Reimold, who plays in the trio Fake Boyfriend recently featured onStereogum, sings with a voice capable of both lullabies and savagery.

MAD Dragon Music Group is a student-run organization based out of the Music Industry Program, and is made possible with the support of the Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies. Click for updates about BattleFest.
