Transfer Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply to transfer to Drexel?

To apply to the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, we encourage you to visit Drexel’s Transfer Application Instructions webpage to learn more about our application requirements and deadlines.

When can I apply to transfer to Westphal?

At Westphal, due to sequencing of required courses, we only allow students to apply for transfer entry during fall term. The priority application deadline for fall is April 15. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Do you require a portfolio to transfer?

Some of our majors at Westphal do not require a portfolio to apply for transfer. However, if you have taken credits related to your major of interest at Westphal (including design, programming, merchandising or film), to receive credit and placement in our programs, you will need to submit work that demonstrates the skills and knowledge acquired in your prior courses. Students can submit eight to 25 pieces of work in Slideroom to showcase their skill level and previous course work.

To learn more about our transfer portfolio requirements, please visit Drexel’s admissions website.

How do I find out what credits will transfer?

If you have not yet applied and you are wondering what courses would transfer to Westphal, please contact our Director of Recruitment, Tia James at tjm22@drexel.edu.

How many years will I have to complete at Westphal?

Each program has different course requirements and placement is evaluated when you apply to Drexel. However, students cannot place higher than a sophomore level at Westphal due to the co-op cycle for most of our programs taking place during junior year. If you have questions about your credits or placement before applying, please contact our Director of Recruitment, Tia James at tjm22@drexel.edu.

Can I still go on a co-op if I transfer?

Yes, you will still be eligible to go on co-op as a transfer student at Westphal. Co-op, short for cooperative education, is a program that provides students the opportunity to alternate academic study with full time employment. Co-op is a graduation requirement for all students at Westphal and prepares students to work in the professional world post-graduation. Each Westphal major offers a different co-op cycle tailored to their curriculum.

If you have questions please contact our Director of Recruitment, Tia James at tjm22@drexel.edu.

I have completed a degree and I am looking for a second career. Can I apply to Westphal?

Yes, you are still eligible to apply for our undergraduate programs at Westphal even if you have achieved a prior degree. We also offer many avenues to enter our graduate programs even if you do not have a prior background in the design field. We suggest contacting our Director of Recruitment, Tia James at tjm22@drexel.edu to discuss what path is best for you and your career goals.
