Debra Ruben joined Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design in 2000. She is an Associate Professor in Interior Design, currently serving as the Academic Associate Dean for Westphal College. Prior to her current role, Debra was the Program Director for the undergraduate Interior Design and graduate Interior Architecture & Design programs, both of which have Council for Interior Design (CIDA) accreditations and top rankings from DesignIntelligence. She co-chaired the committee to develop the recent MS Design Research program and the long-standing minor in Sustainability in the Built Environment. In addition, she serves as a site visitor for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. Debra’s research incorporates interdisciplinary design thinking, sustainability issues and participatory practices as they relate to community building. Debra has received numerous foundation grants to fund projects that serve communities in West Philadelphia. She was a designer and project manager at the Architecture and Interior Design firm Phase 2 Designs for ten years, is an NCIDQ certificate holder and LEED accredited professional, and continues to maintain a small design practice.
