USCIS to Publish New Editions of Form I-539 and Form I-765: Older Editions Will Not Be Accepted Starting September 15, 2026
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it will publish new editions of Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status, and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, on September 15, 2026. The forms have been revised to align with the final rule eliminating the Duration of Status for F and J visa holders.
IMPORTANT: There will be no grace period for the new editions of Forms I-539 and I-765. The current editions will be accepted through September 14, 2026. Beginning September 15, 2026, applicants must use the new 09/15/26 editions of both forms. USCIS will accept the 09/15/26 editions only if they are postmarked or electronically submitted on or after September 15, 2026.
