Drexel University Rapid Response Research Fund

In honor of Juneteenth and with a deep commitment to the needed examination and eradication of racism in this country and around the world, Drexel’s Rapid Response Research Fund will provide fast funding for faculty undertaking racial inequity research projects. These funds are intended to facilitate urgent action, short-term projects that respond to this pivotal time in history to engage in novel, cutting-edge, research and scholarly activity on all aspects of racial inequity.

Funds must directly support race, racism and racial justice research and scholarly activity projects and must be expended no later than January 1, 2021.

What areas or topics might the Rapid Response funds support? Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Discrimination

  • Mental health

  • Economic impact

  • Criminology

  • Identity

  • Urban health

  • Environmental justice

  • Educational inequities

  • Digital divide

  • Social capital

How to apply for Rapid Response Research funds?

Submit a proposal via the Drexel University Funding Portal no later than Monday, July 6, 2020 at 5:00pm. Proposals should include the following sections, and sections 1 through 5 should be no more than 3 pages in length (proposal template provided) total:

  1. Research/Scholarly Activity team (faculty members/affiliations)

  2. Participation of external partners (if any) 

  3. Project description 

    1. Introduction/rationale

    2. Potential impact

    3. Innovation

    4. Approach

  4. A timetable showing activities and anticipated deliverables

  5. Budget (template provided) and budget justification

  6. Biosketch/CV for all project team members

  7. Letter of support from department head(s)

Total funds available: $100,000

Project Awards: Up to $5,000
