The PAR process enters its fourth year this year with the plan to review 15 academic programs. Self-study groups have begun their work, and external reviewers are being selected for spring visits. Including the five pilot reviews done the first year of PAR, we have reviewed 51 academic programs.
Drexel Center for Academic Excellence
The DCAE now has new space in Korman, Room 295. A new conference room was created so that small groups of the Drexel community can meet and discuss topics surrounding teaching and learning. If you would like to reserve the room, please contact the DCAE Director, Dr. Barbara Hornum, to set up details.
Office of Faculty Development & Equity
The Office of Faculty Development & Equity (FDE) will be launching a new Under-Represented Minority Faculty Interest Group in the 2015 fall term. Established to create an informal forum for learning and dialogue, the group will be faculty driven and meet self- identified needs of Drexel faculty of color, while providing an opportunity for networking and forming cross-disciplinary connections.
The Academic Department Heads’ Initiative is designed to help create high-functioning academic units at Drexel with strong and capable leadership. Academic Department Heads' workshops take place throughout the academic year on a monthly basis.
Institute for Energy and the Environment
This past spring a four-part series entitled Shifting Energy Cultures (SEC) was held on campus to help explore energy issues relevant to our campus, our city and beyond. The series was part of a multi-disciplinary research project funded by the InĀstitute for Energy and the Environment, and was a collaboration between the Center for Science, Technology, and Society, the Center for Mobilities Research and Policy, and the Center for Electric Power Engineering.
Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness
On September 9-11, Drexel University hosted the 2nd annual Conference on Assessment of Teaching and Student Learning entitled “Building Academic Innovation and Renewal.” The purpose of the conference is to bring together individuals who are interested in the study of teaching and learning in order to share ideas and programs and to network.
Roughly 2,500 years ago, Heraclitus said, “Change is the only constant.” Those who know Drexel University understand the truth of those words.
Office of International Programs
The Office of International Programs unveiled its new Global Engagement Scholar (GES) program in Spring 2015 with its first cohort of 30 undergraduate students; twenty more joined over the summer.
Office of University and Community Partnerships
This past June, Writers Room at the Dornsife Center celebrated its first year of programming with a reading and book release. Anthology was the no-nonsense title of the compiled work of the many West Philadelphia community members, Drexel students, faculty, and staff who attended workshops during its inaugural season.
