Dr. Andre Carrington, an assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, was quoted on CBSPhilly.com on October 30 about people wearing blackface for Halloween.

Dr. Yaba Blay, an assistant teaching professor and co-director of the Africana Studies program in the College of Arts and Sciences, was interviewed on WHYY-FM’s “Radio Times with Marty Moss-Coane” October 30 about the politics of racial identity and her new portrait essay book, “(1)ne Drop: Shifting the Lens on Race.”

It was picked up by numerous outlets, including ABCNews.com, Washington Post, Yahoo! News and MSN News.

Barry Furrow, a professor in the Earle Mack School of Law and director of the Health Law Program, was interviewed on WHYY/Newsworks.org on October 23 about a new Pennsylvania law that prevents certain expressions of condolences or sympathies by doctors from being used in lawsuits.

Dr. Robert Brehm, an associate teaching professor in the College of Engineering,and Dr. Scott Knowles, an associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, were mentioned in an October 31 Philadelphia Inquirer story for being appointed to Mayor Nutter’s committee to lead an independent review of the Department of Licenses and Inspections, an action spurred by the 22nd and Market Streets building collapse. The story was also covered by WCAU-TV (NBC-10).

A book by Dr. George Ciccariello-Maher, an assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, entitled We Created Chavez: A People’s History of the Venezuelan Revolution was reviewed by Public Books on October 15.

James Herbert, a professor and head of the psychology department in the College of Arts and Sciences, was quoted in an October 14 Philadelphia Inquirer story about the redistricting in the Lower Merion School District.

Dr. Ellen Staurowsky, a professor in the Center for Hospitality and Sport Management, was quoted in a Philadelphia Business Journal on October 4about a lawsuit against the NCAA.

Dr. Robert Field, a professor in the Earle Mack School of Law and School of Public Health, was interviewed on WPVI-TV (6-abc) on October 1 about the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance exchanges which opened yesterday.
