Heard Around Campus — May 2025

It’s the last full month of the term! Make sure you’re ready for what comes next with these deadlines and opportunities. Here’s what was heard around campus this month.
WorkReady at Drexel: Register for a Summer Intern by June 13
Drexel has pledged to continue support of Philadelphia Youth Network’s WorkReady Philadelphia summer internship program, which helps prepare teens and young adults living in West Philadelphia for 21st-century careers. To support this commitment, 40 summer intern positions (fulfilled either entirely on-campus or hybrid) will be fully funded, allowing Drexel faculty and professional staff to mentor and support interns at no cost to their departments, thanks to support from the Office of University and Community Partnerships and the Office of the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating and Financial Officer, and Treasurer. The 2025 Drexel WorkReady program will run from July 7 through August 15, and the supervisor registration deadline is June 13. To learn more about hosting an intern, please visit the Human Resources WorkReady webpage. Questions about the program may be directed to Porsche Murray at plm82@drexel.edu or 215.895.2850, or Talieda Thomas at tt687@drexel.edu.
Workshop: Managing Within The Law, June 18
“Managing Within the Law,” offered on June 18 from 1–2:30 p.m., focuses on what every manager needs to know about creating a safe and inclusive work environment. Participants will learn where to turn for help in engaging staff, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, understanding disability and other accommodations, and issue spotting. There is a required pre-work assignment for this workshop, consisting of a 10-minute online course that will provide some foundational information on these important topics. This workshop is a core component of The Art of Management, Drexel’s self-paced, online leadership program. Register for this workshop in Career Pathway.
Choose Your Own Wellness Adventure to Earn Up to $400
Benefits-eligible faculty and professional staff participating in Drexel’s popular Wellness Incentive Program can earn up to $400 in their paychecks for completing wellness activities. Plus, eligible spouses and domestic partners can earn an additional $250 for completing their own wellness plan.
You must first complete the Personal Health Profile in the Wellness Incentive Program portal, worth 50 points ($50), before you are eligible to receive any payouts. After that, earn your remaining points by choosing your own wellness adventure. You can challenge yourself to complete activities outside your comfort zone, or get paid for the activities you’re already participating in. Most employees enjoy a mix of both! The reward is not only up to $400, but also the satisfaction of knowing that you’re promoting your well-being.
Here’s one example of how you can earn $400 in your pay:
- Personal Health Profile (REQUIRED): 50 points
- Annual Physical Exam: 50 points
- Dental Exam: 50 points
- Log 10,000 daily steps: 50 points (1 point per day completed)
- Biometric Screening at LabCorp: 100 points
- Complete Charity Work: 50 points (10 points per month for volunteering)
- Personal Health Challenges: 25 points each (up to 100 points/4 challenges total)

All members of the Drexel community are invited to submit comments regarding Drexel Public Safety's compliance with its accreditation standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. Both the Drexel University Police Department and the DPS Communications Center have been internationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 2011. Survey: Help SEPTA Improve Service to University City
University City District (UCD) is partnering with SEPTA to learn more about opinions and experiences of how you commute to work, including experience with the LUCY (Loop through University City) bus service, in order to improve service to University City. You’re invited to take this short survey (5–10 minutes to complete) that will help UCD and SEPTA better understand how Drexel faculty and staff interact with the service. Participation in this survey is voluntary; all responses will be reported in aggregate without personally identifying details. Upon completion of the survey, you may choose to enter a raffle to win a gift card to a University City area restaurant.
Reminder: Submit Your Leave Reports On Time
Exempt professional staff members are required to submit a Leave Report at the end of every month even if no leave time was taken during the period. As we near the end of fiscal year 2025, now is a good time to go into DrexelOne, access your Leave Report, and submit or approve time for any previous month that is still outstanding this year. All leave reports must be completed and submitted at the end of the fiscal year for compliance purposes. Submitting your leave report and ensuring it is approved by your supervisor each month helps to keep your leave balance up-to-date so you can effectively plan for future time off. To help you remember to submit and/or approve your Leave Reports each month, set up a recurring reminder in your Outlook calendar for yourself and/or your direct reports.
Fulbright Scholar Applications Available Through Sept. 15
Attention full-time and adjunct faculty and administrators: The application period is about halfway over for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program's 2026–2027 competition. You have until Sept. 15 to apply. Explore your options and start your Fulbright journey at fulbrightscholars.org.
- Fulbright offers faculty Fulbright Scholar awards to conduct research or teach abroad, or a combination of the two, for periods ranging from the 5-month Flex Award up through an academic year. The Fulbright Specialist Program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share your expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone your skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions.
- The Fulbright International Education Administrator Award is a two-week funded seminar for U.S. higher education administrators to learn about participating countries’ higher education systems, to exchange information on best practices, or to explore the potential for partnerships with institutions of higher education and Drexel, and raise Drexel's profile abroad.
For assistance, you may contact Drexel's Fulbright Scholar Liaison Jeffrey Stanley, an adjunct in Westphal College of Media Arts & Design and a former Fulbrighter, at jas657@drexel.edu, at any point during your application process.
