Drexel Recognized as a Finalist for the 2022 Philadelphia Business Journal Healthiest Employers Program

Drexel University has been recognized as one of the region’s healthiest employers by the Philadelphia Business Journal’s annual Healthiest Employers Awards program, which honors organizations for creating exceptional workplaces that their employees value highly through programs that integrate mental health benefits, telehealth options, and virtual fitness/health and nutrition coaching.

At the center of Drexel’s commitment to fostering a culture of wellness is A Healthier U, a Human Resources initiative providing opportunities to support employee wellbeing and enhance the body, mind and spirit of the Drexel community. Through A Healthier U, eligible Drexel faculty and professional staff can participate in the Wellness Incentive Program, in which they earn points (one point = $1) for attending in-person or virtual wellness events, taking part in challenges, recording doctor’s visits, tracking activities on a Smart watch, or even incorporating just 10 minutes of healthy activity into their day via the Ten at 10 wellness program.

Drexel is always looking for ways to enhance the health and wellness benefits offered to faculty and professional staff. In 2021, Drexel expanded its mental health offerings with a new employee assistance program through  SupportLinc. And for the first time, Drexel now offers comprehensive fertility benefits through Progyny.

“During this era of a global pandemic and civil unrest, Drexel is continuously looking for opportunities to enhance benefits and meet the growing needs of our employee population.

Drexel’s A Healthier U wellness program has been tailored to serve the needs of our employees, encouraging faculty and staff to invest in their physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing,” explains Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Megan Weyler. “Following the implementation of the wellness program, we have seen a decrease in chronic health conditions as our faculty and staff take a proactive approach to remaining healthy and have also realized a reduction in claims costs and substantial cost avoidance in our medical and Rx premiums. This is a win/win from an employee and employer perspective.”

Wondering what’s on deck for A Healthier U programming? The annual Employee Olympics are back on the University City Campus next Wednesday, June 15, from 2-5 p.m. During this event, faculty and staff will compete in a sport of their choice (basketball, dodgeball, beach volleyball or baggo) or stroll with their colleagues in a non-competitive Fun Walk (which has a virtual option, too). Each participant can earn 25 wellness incentive program points for registering (registration is open now through June 10). However, you do not have to have signed up to join the fun – community members can stop by to socialize and cheer on their fellow Dragons, too!
