Heard Around Campus — April

Green image with a cartoon ear and the words "Heard Around Campus."

With everything that’s going on — and there’s a lot — make sure you keep track on upcoming events (Employee Olympics!) and personal and professional opportunities (safety and career classes!) for Drexel faculty and professional staff.

In Case You Missed it: EarthFest 2022

EarthFest returned this year, bigger (and greener!) than ever. On April 19, in observance of Earth Week and in celebration of the University’s commitment to sustainability, Lancaster Walk and the Gateway Garden bloomed with student organizations, Drexel departments, and local businesses, all with a shared devotion to bettering the planet. Check out the recap and photos of the fun on the DrexelNEWS website.

Employee Olympics Is Back in June!

Drexel’s annual Employee Olympics will return to the University City Campus (and virtually for those who work remotely) on June 15, from 2–5 p.m. This event features snacks and treats, noncompetitive summer-fun games on the Fitness Plaza, and even a visit from Drexel’s friendly therapy dogs. Participating in the Olympics will earn you 25 points toward the 2022 Wellness Incentive Program.

You can register for one of the following events of your choice:

  • Basketball
  • Dodgeball
  • Baggo
  • Beach volleyball (weather permitting)
  • Fun Walk (in-person or virtual)

Registration is open from May 16 to June 10. Check out the Employee Olympics web page for more information.

Remember to Vote! PA’s Primary Is May 17

Pennsylvania's 2022 Primary Election takes place on May 17. In this year’s general election (Nov. 7), Pennsylvanians will be voting for a new governor, an open U.S. Senate seat, all U.S. and state House races (every two years) and certain state Senate races (every four years). To vote in the May 17 primary, you must register by May 2. To vote by mail, you must request your ballot by May 10 at 5 p.m. You can request a mail-in or absentee ballot, check your registration status, register to vote or download a registration form, and find information about your polling place at vote.pa.gov, or call the Pennsylvania Department of State's toll-free hotline at 1.877.VOTESPA (877.868.3772). For more helpful links, deadlines and information, visit drexel.edu/vote.

Don’t Forget to Register for Alumni Weekend

Alumni Weekend is back, live and in-person! From May 19–22, the biggest alumni gathering of the year includes events like Spirits Tasting, Drexel After Dark, and — new for this year — the Drexel Makers Market Festival, an outdoor market featuring the products of Drexel makers and entrepreneurs, live music, food trucks, a beer (and spirits!) garden and more. Register on the Alumni page.

Join Public Safety for Cookies With Cops

With warmer weather on the horizon, Public Safety is transitioning from Cocoa With Cops to Cookies (and Lemonade) with Cops! Swing by for a chance to interact with Drexel police officers while enjoying some refreshments and conversation to break up your day. The next event will be held May 11 from 4:30–6 p.m. on the southeast corner of 33rd and Arch streets, next to Buckley Field entrance.

Stay SAFE This Spring: Take a Self-Protection Class!

Public Safety’s self-protection program, SAFE, aims to give Drexel students, faculty and professional staff the practical skills, resources and knowledge to increase their personal safety and protect themselves in an unsafe situation. The program focuses on your mindset, self-awareness, techniques that could assist in the event of a physical assault, and information on how and to whom you should report incidents and any safety concerns. Classes are currently being scheduled by request for either individuals or groups. To schedule a session, please contact Linda Moran at lmm467@drexel.edu for more information.

Boost Your Professional Development With New Online Courses

As the way many of us work continues to evolve, opportunities to learn at one’s own pace and take part in professional development off-campus become more and more important. To meet this need, Human Resources is excited to announce new online courses and learning bundles are now available in Career Pathway. These new courses and bundles offer information from experts, ideas to ponder, and skill-building suggestions on a variety of topics, including professional growth, essential skills, and technical skills. For more information on these new offerings, including specific courses and bundles and access instructions, please visit the HR website.

Journal Entry Workflow 3.0 Virtual Training

The Office of the Comptroller will be hosting a Journal Entry Workflow 3.0 virtual training session, just in time for fiscal year-end close, on June 14 from 1–3 p.m., via Zoom. Participants will learn how to submit and approve journal entries (funding transfers, transaction corrections, accruals and reversals) using the Journal Entry Workflow 3.0 in a test environment. Seating is limited and you will need to register for the training using Career Pathway on the Employee tab of the DrexelOne portal. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Sherri Welch at slw383@drexel.edu.
