Drexel's Entrepreneurial Game Studio Gets Boost From State Economic Development Grant

Drexel University’s Entrepreneurial Game Studio (EGS) is on its way to becoming a proving ground for enterprising young game developers. As part of a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the studio, which was founded about two years ago by Frank Lee, PhD, an associate professor in Westphal College, will take the next step toward becoming an educational business incubator for undergraduate students pursuing careers in game design.

Only three weeks remain to see Drexel University’s “Bill Walton, artist to artist,” exhibition, which was called “a particularly haunting and lovely tribute to Walton through some friends who knew him best” in a review by the Philadelphia Inquirer. The exhibition is currently on display in the URBN Center Annex’s Leonard Pearlstein Gallery (3401 Filbert St.), part of Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, through Friday, Dec. 5. The gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday – Sunday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Today it signals a promising discovery in materials science research that could help next-generation technology –like wearable energy storage devices- get off the ground. Researchers at Drexel University and Dalian University of Technology in China have chemically engineered a new, electrically conductive nanomaterial that is flexible enough to fold, but strong enough to support many times its own weight. They believe it can be used to improve electrical energy storage, water filtration and radiofrequency shielding in technology from portable electronics to coaxial cables.

Sonny Vaccaro, one of the most “influential and controversial” (Washington Post) figures in sports, will join Drexel University on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 13 – 14 as the keynote speaker for its annual Sport for Social Change Conference. The conference will feature discussions on social justice in sport, athlete’s rights, the future of the NCAA, the misappropriation of American Indian imagery in sport and youth participation in sport. The conference is hosted by the Drexel University Sport Management Student Union (SMTSU), an undergraduate student organization, and the Department of Sport Management in the Center for Hospitality and Sport Management.
