Drexel’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will open their respective seasons this weekend and begin their quest for a Colonial Athletic Association title. The men are on the road against Colorado on Friday, Nov. 14; while the women host Cornell on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Led by junior guard Damion Lee, who returns after missing most of last season with an injury, the Drexel men were picked to finish fourth in the conference’s preseason coaches and media poll. Head Coach Bruiser Flint’s squad went 16-14 last year and is shooting for its sixth winning season in its last seven campaigns.
Lee is a Preseason All-CAA First Team selection for the second year in a row. He will look to regain his form from the 2013-14 season, when he finished third in the CAA with 17.1 points per game. Lee enters his junior season with 960 career points and is already 14th on the school's career list for three-pointers with 131. He was the only Dragon selected to either the first or second team. Junior Tavon Allen was an honorable mention pick in this year’s preseason poll. Allen averaged 11.7 points per game as a sophomore last year. Drexel will tip off against Colorado at 8 p.m. (EST) on Friday in a game that will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Fans can also watch online at Pac-12.com and a live audio broadcast of the game is available via www.drexelragons.com.
The Drexel women will take the court at the Daskalakis Athletic Center against Cornell on Sunday at 2 p.m. to open their 2014-15 season. The Dragons are looking to bounce back after finishing 15-16 last year, which was just their first losing season in the last seven years. Live video and audio coverage of the game will be available on www.drexeldragons.com.
Led by returning starters, Rachel Pearson, Meghan Creighton and Sarah Curran, Head Coach Denise Dillon’s team was picked to finish third in the conference in the preseason coaches and media poll. Pearson, who led the team in scoring last season, was also selected to the Preseason All-CAA Second Team. She and fellow junior Creighton are the only returning Dragons who started all 31 games last year. Curran is looking for a strong follow-up to her CAA All-Rookie performance last year when she ranked second on the team in scoring at just under nine points per game.
Individual game tickets for all home games are currently available at www.DrexelTickets.com or by calling 1-866-4-DREXEL.
