Drexel Named Among Healthiest Employers

Drexel University received a Healthiest Employers Award by the Philadelphia Business Journal for the second year in a row. The University is the only higher education institution to receive the award.

Drexel is known for taking a special interest in the health and well-being of its students, faculty and staff through the “A Healthier U” program headed by Victor Tringali, director of University Wellness.

“With its primary focus on physical activity, healthy nutrition and smoking cessation, A Healthier U is increasingly integrating healthy behaviors into our University culture to help healthy individuals stay healthy,” Tringali said. “It also provides those with health risks the resources they need to reduce their chances of chronic illness or serious medical conditions in the future.”

Drexel is a top-ranked university with more than 4,000 full-time employees. The “A Healthier U” program is aimed at everyone, including part-time employees, adjunct faculty and 24,860 students.

“We are committed to fostering an environment that offers our students, faculty and professional staff opportunities to positively impact their health,” Tringali said

The program focuses on physical, emotional and financial wellness, offering all students and staff support in every area they require. A state-of-the-art recreation center and numerous opportunities for improving health and well-being—including a wellness fair, workshops and weight management programs—are available to the Drexel community. Drexel was recently recognized as a “Gold Level Fit Friendly Workplace” by the American Heart Association for the second consecutive year.

Drexel is a top-ranked, comprehensive research university widely recognized for its focus on experiential learning through its co-operative education program and translational research initiatives. With more than 24,000 students, Drexel is the nation's 14th largest private university.
