Conversation Card Game

The Civic Engagement Conversation Card Game is a discussion-based tool designed to help students explore questions about civic engagement, social issues, identity, and community, and more. Inspired by the Lindy Center’s CIVC 101 curriculum, the game facilitates meaningful discussions both within and beyond the classroom. As a CIVC 101 teaching assistant, I noticed that some students sometimes struggled to get discussions started or keep them going. I wanted to create a resource that could help students dig deeper into class topics and their perspectives. I reviewed CIVC 101 course materials, developed conversation prompts and activities, and designed the cards. At the Lindy Center’s End of Year celebration, I shared the card game with the attendees and enjoyed seeing them use it to spark conversations. While working on this project, I was also reading Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks (shout-out to the Lindy Center’s library). One takeaway was that learning allows us to confront our realities while cultivating our imagination. I wanted the game to contribute to that process by bringing people together, encouraging curiosity and reflection, and opening the door to collective action. I am proud that it continues to be available as a resource at the Lindy Center.
