Student Project Support

As a student-facing office, the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement strives to make civic engagement accessible to all students while also ensuring student work (whether through our office or otherwise) aligns with the University's and Lindy Center's values. To this end, we are happy to offer support and guidance to students doing civic engagement work even when it is not through our office; this includes but is not limited to students doing service projects with their student organizations, students doing required volunteer service for a course, and students doing projects aligned with civic and community engagement through fellow campus offices. We can support in the following ways:

  • Advising students in best practices for civic engagement, including combining elements of learning, responsible engagement, and reflection into their service projects and other projects. For example, if a student organization is planning a group service activity, we may suggest and help with designing a pre-service workshop to put the activity into context and a post-service reflection to make meaning from the experience and help group members think about next steps. This kind of support depends on our capacity and your group's needs.
  • Create opportunities to highlight your work by collaborating with us on existing events such as Talking Tuesday or Issue to Action, a series where we highlight stories of individual students who turned their passions into meaningful activism.
  • Use of our technological resources, such as our civic engagement database which can help your student group manage volunteer events, including sign-ups, attendance, and hours tracking for members.
  • Allowing use of our office space for events, workshops, service activities, etc. [link to Event Space and Lending Library]
  • Assisting you in connecting with other students, community organizations and/or our colleagues in University & Community Partnerships, including the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships and Writers Room.

If you're interested in anything described above and/or you have other ideas of how Lindy Center could help with your independent civic engagement project, please reach out to us at LindyCenter@drexel.edu with more information about what you're working on!
