27 clippings scrapbooks and loose clippings of general information related to
WMC/MCP. All scrapbooks are of a general nature, covering any topic relevant
to the school and hospital and were compiled anonymously (probably by the
public relations department in later years). One of the two more specific
scrapbooks focuses on the Alice Tallant Affair; the other was compiled by Dr.
Rachel L. Bodley, Dean of the College from 1874-1888. Each scrapbook covers a
particular period of time with the total time period covered being from 1867
to 1972 with single clippings dating to 1854. The loose clippings were
transferred intermittently to the Archives from the PR Department, and are
dated 1966 to 1984.
*Note: Four record cartons of materials containing Dateline MCP, a compilation
of reprints from local and national newspapers and magazine articles, are
stored off-site at Pierce Leahy storage under Abstract number 133 in customer

The American Women's Hospitals (AWH) developed from the War Service Committee
of the Medical Women's National Association (later AMWA) in 1917 to provide,
register, and finance American women physicians for war work; to offer medical
and emergency relief to refugees; and later to provide international public
health service. In 1959, AHW became an independent agency and remained such
until 1982 when it re-merged with AMWA. The records of AWH include a history,
ca. 1935; scattered reports and correspondence and related financial
information, 1917-1921, of the War Service Committee; and biographical
information about several AWH physicians. Minutebooks, 1917-1975, reflect the
activities of the AWH in Albania, Asia, Bolivia, China, France, Great Britain,
Greece, Haiti, India, Japan, the Near and Far East, Russia, Serbia, and the
rural United States. Scattered material from AWH headquarters includes
correspondence, speeches, memorials, and related materials, [1917-1970], of
Esther Pohl Lovejoy, M.D., president of AWH, 1919-1967. Project files,
1918-1982, which comprise the bulk of the collection, include medical and
financial reports; correspondence of the AWH project directors, primarily with
AWH headquarters, but also with the American Committee for a Devastated

obstetrics and gynecology, including birth control, and also her interest in
women in medicine. A large part of the correspondence concerns Van Hoosen's
interests in the National Medical Women's Association, later the American
Medical Women's Women's Association, later the American Medical Women's
Association, with letters from missionaries in China and India. Materials,
[(1940-1961)-1971], reveal Van Hoosen's efforts to create, at Woman's Medical
College, a Medical Women's Library on the history of women in medicine, and
contain correspondence with physicians and with librarians around the world
compiling bibliographies on the subject, notebooks listing some of the books
